• Comedy Central Building on Microsoft BackOffice
  Mark Minevich, project manager for the Weehawken, New Jersey-based Icon CMT, says a number of Microsoft tools, including the BackOffice Server suite components, were key in the development of the Comedy Central intranet.

  "[Microsoft] SQL Server™ is the core around which the intranet was designed," Minevich says. It contains most of the information they wanted employees to access, such as job postings, phone listings, and other data. "We created much of the database in [Microsoft] Access to save on development costs, but Comedy Central is able to take that information and transfer it to their SQL server. They have standardized on SQL Server for the intranet because of its scalability—it will be able to grow with the business."

  Comedy Central uses Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) to run the intranet. IIS is an integrated part of Microsoft Windows NT Server that provides Web-based information publishing and application delivery.
