"Why would I want an IntraNet?"

An IntraNet will save you time and money.
Think of an IntraNet as your company's own private web site and central location for everything. You have seen, and probably shopped at an online store like Amazon.com. Just imagine everything you can do at Amazon. You can place an order, receive email updates on order and delivery status' and much more. You can even get recommendations for other products, depending on what you already bought.

Now imagine if you could do that with your business.
You can put an Office Supply ordering system on to your IntraNet, streamlining the process. You can request office supplies, the request will be sent to the Office Manager who has a system that processes the supply requests, and you get an email confirming if the Office Manager ordered your supplies. All with the click of a few buttons. You can even set it up so that employees have budgets that they can't break, so you don't have to worry about your spending. Just imagine everything that can be done through the IntraNet. You can process Expense Reimbursement requests, Travel Reservations, and even Human Resources processes.

A Central Location for everything.
All of your training materials, sales info, marketing brochures and documents, and whatever else, can all be placed on the IntraNet. It becomes organized, categorized, and searchable. All so that you can find what you need, when you need it. If Sally in Marketing tells you that she saved the file to the network under "Marketing/SalesDocs/2001/Brochures/...", chances are you don't want to go navigating through folders and files. Search for the document on the IntraNet, which has organized and categorized your documents for you. The IntraNet will have control of your business files, worrying about versions and drafts for you. If John in Sales wants the latest copy of the revenue report, it will be on the IntraNet. He can be sure that the copy on the IntraNet is the final version, so he won't have to keep track of all the re-writes and drafts. The IntraNet will track the changes for him, and make sure he is up-to-date.

Integrate Microsoft OfficeXP and you can collaborate on your documents through the IntraNet, tracking the changes and different drafts. Did you like the way that Marketing piece looked last week compared to now? The IntraNet will have saved that older draft and you can compare and merge the changes.

The IntraNet enables better communication as well.
A well built IntraNet will be well used. And that means you and your co-workers will be seeing it everyday. Why not take advantage of that visibility and put up a News section with notes from people in the company. Whether it's John in Sales letting the company know that he just closed a great deal or Julie in Accounting announcing she's pregnant, a News section provides a great way of communicating with all your employees. You can also use the IntraNet to let everyone know about the company picnic coming up next month, and then provide a way for everyone to RSVP through the IntraNet, cutting down on the time it takes to organize events like that.

Customized Experiences through an IntraNet allow for better communication.
When you are on Amazon.com, do you notice it is completely customized for you? It says "Welcome back, John Doe" and remembers your email address and other vital information. It then uses that information to present you with relevant sections and features. If you have been ordering a lot of Mystery novels, the latest thriller will be a featured item. The IntraNet will recognize you and your co-workers like that as well. So all the employees in the Sales department might have the sales numbers for the quarter on the IntraNet home page. Or the Marketing department might have a special announcement from the President on a job well done with the latest brochures. How ever you want to communicate with each other, it can be done through the IntraNet.
